TECHNICAL FEATURES
The BESS is intended to strengthen the reliability and stability of Azerbaijan’s power system in anticipation of integrating approximately 1.9 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2027.
The system is designed to mitigate power imbalances resulting from the variable and stochastic generation profiles of solar and wind power plants.
Simulation results demonstrated the need for a response time of approximately 1 second to compensate for power fluctuations.
This requirement makes the use of conventional generation sources impractical and necessitates the deployment of battery energy storage systems (BESS) equipped with power electronic converters.
The BESS is also designed to provide black start capability, supplying power for the restoration of the electric power system in the event of a major system disturbance or generation outage.
